PDO AND PGI WINES FROM TAMYANKA VARIETY FROM THE BLACK SEA REGION

Home / News

Tamyanka is an old white variety that is defined as an elegant muscat. The moderate-continental climate, strongly influenced by the proximity of the Black Sea, with the characteristic breeze circulation, the relatively dry summer and the long and warm autumn, influence the development of specific characteristics of the variety in this region, making it suitable for PDO and PGI registration.

Tamyanka is a medium-early wine variety. It ripens in the first half of September. After ripening, the grapes turn into raisins. It grows well on light humus-carbonate, sandy-clay or gravelly soils on hilly airy terrains with good sunlight. The vines have medium growth, good fertility and medium yield. The variety is attacked by gray rot and particularly strongly by the vine mite. It is poorly resistant to low winter temperatures. The average yield per hectare is around 800-1000 kg.

The bunch is medium-sized (120-160 g), cylindrical to cylindrical-conical, semi-compact to compact. The grains are medium, spherical. The skin is thick, rusty yellow or golden yellow with a tan, with characteristic small black dots. The meat is juicy, with a harmonious taste and a strong incense aftertaste.

Grapes accumulate a lot of sugars - 20 - 26%, with a titratable acidity of 6 - 8 g/ cubic dm. The raisining and the accumulation of high sugar content make the grapes suitable for obtaining high-quality semi-dry and sweet wines, which are distinguished by a dark golden color, density and a fine musket-incense aroma. A classic wine variety for obtaining quality dessert wines.

The wines made from the Tamyanka variety are highly aromatic, but do not smell like incense. They are typical of the Muscat family with aromas of lime, grapes and flowers, but are more elegant than other members of the Muscat family.

Most wines of this variety are suitable for light and non-spicy dishes. It can be served with sushi, fish dishes, white meats, different types of cheese, fresh vegetable salads, fruit salads. Some of the wines are a great tandem for seafood and fresh desserts, for vegetarian dishes and appetizers. They go well with cheesecake or with the specialties of Asian cuisine.

The "Sea and Wine" project aims to raise awareness about the benefits of PDO and PGI registration, thereby increasing the competitiveness of wines from the Black Sea region.
