WINES WITH PDO AND PGI ARE MORE APPRECIATED BY WINE CONNOISSEURS

A significant number of wine connoisseurs are oriented in search of regional wineries in order to conduct a tasting, selection and replenishment of their personal collections of wines of different vintages and varietal diversity.

From surveys conducted among wine connoisseurs, the grape variety and the applied production and aging methods are essential. For wine produced from grapes with controlled yield (800-900) kg/ha and fermented in oak barrels (PDO), the quality and price are higher than that of wine produced from a variety with uncontrolled yield.

Consumer demand and preference for lower alcohol beverages is growing. This is especially noticeable among younger users and women.

The rosé remains fashionable in all its color and varietal variants - an aroma of wild berries with an enhanced color to cherry - rosé; rosé "onion scale" color to "salmon" color with citrus fruit, gooseberry and fresh peach. Low-alcohol red wines, less heavy, lighter, more aromatic, livelier, are emerging as a new trend in wine consumption.

According to NSBL data, the wine vineyards in the Black Sea region for 2020 are a total of 136,712 decares, of which PGI is 46,634 decares, PDO is 36,464 decares and without PDO/PGI 56,614 decares

The "Sea and Wine" project aims to raise awareness about the benefits of PDO and PGI registration, thereby increasing the competitiveness of wines from the Black Sea region.
